The meadow in 2022

Five years in, the meadow is a jungle. The back part, I admit, is Lupine Forest. But there's a lot more.

The columbines have been the stars this year—dotted throughout, each a different color. Two lovely ones—reddish pink and a purple so dark it's almost black—even volunteered in the flower bed among the roses. The irises put on a great show. The bee's friend is back, and the bees. And yesterday evening, I surprised a swallowtail butterfly feeding on a dianthus.

Because of the rain (and life), I took no photos until May; I missed the stream violets, camas lilies, bleeding hearts, Henderson's shooting star. And I'm truly sorry I didn't get the fawn lily, which looked firmly established and had three lovely bell blossoms.
